World Water Day was created within the scope of the United Nations Conference on the Environment and Development (UNCED) held in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992. On December 22nd of that same year, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring that March 22nd be declared annual World Water Day. The theme this year is “The world is thirsty because we are hungry” and aims to address the growth of the world’s population and guarantee access to nutritional food for all.
